Resident Commissioner Visits Infrastructure Projects in Mayagüez

Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi met today with José Guillermo Rodríguez, the Mayor of Mayagüez, and Puerto Rico Senator Luis Daniel Muñiz in order to discuss the municipality’s infrastructure projects in need of federal funding.

Also present were Dennis Bechara, President of the Puerto Rico Ports Authority, and Elí J. Tilén Bernabe, Economic Development Advisor to the Municipality of Mayagüez.

The Resident Commissioner expressed his commitment to support several transportation projects, both in the President’s new proposal to increase federal funding for infrastructure and in the reauthorization of SAFETEA-LU, which authorizes and assigns funds for transportation projects.

Additionally, Pierluisi expressed his commitment to facilitate the transfer of lands adjacent to the Port of Mayagüez with the goal of promoting economic development on the western part of the Island.

The group also discussed several other issues pertaining to the needs of the municipality, all of which the Resident Commissioner is following up on.

Pierluisi promised to return to Mayagüez to visit the Port’s facilities, the Medical Center and several other projects on the western part of the Island.
